About the role#
Knight Piesold is seeking a Water Resources Engineer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid internship based in Denver, Colorado. You will work in both office and field environments, contributing to mining and infrastructure projects while receiving mentorship from experienced technical specialists.
What you'll do#
- Support mining industry projects by contributing to geotechnical analyses and engineering evaluations.
- Design major earthwork projects, including tailings dams, heap leach facilities, and ancillary works.
- Create civil layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Produce design reports and assist with project proposals.
- Participate in field investigations and construction Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) tasks.
- Support permitting, reclamation, and closure activities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field. Students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies are encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in MS Office. Experience with Civil 3D is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in learning civil engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, and construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction engineering plans, drawings, and sheet layering.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel to project and field locations as required.
