About the role#
Knight Piesold offers a Summer 2027 internship for students interested in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry. This full-time, paid position provides real-world experience through mentorship and collaboration on diverse projects. You will work in an office setting with potential travel to field locations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design of major earthwork projects, such as tailings dams, heap leach facilities, and ancillary infrastructure.
- Perform geotechnical engineering analyses, including slope stability, seepage, and liquefaction evaluations.
- Create civil layouts and drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Help prepare design reports and project proposals.
- Support geotechnical aspects of permitting, reclamation, and closure activities.
- Learn to read and interpret construction engineering plans, including sheet references and layering.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Preference for students entering their junior year, senior year, or graduate studies.
- Proficiency in MS Office and an interest in learning geotechnical engineering software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented approach to delivering quality work and solving problems.
- Capability to manage time, organize tasks, and prioritize work effectively.
- Willingness to travel to project and field sites as needed.

- Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour.
