About the role#
The English, Philosophy, and World Languages department is looking for a student assistant to help with daily operations. This is a part-time position designed to work around your class schedule. You will support faculty and staff with administrative tasks and department events.
What you'll do#
- Update bulletin boards within the department and nearby classrooms.
- Post class cancellation signs and notify affected students by phone.
- Contact students in cancelled sections to suggest alternative options.
- Staff the department information table on the C-Concourse to distribute flyers and promotional materials.
- Assist faculty and staff during department events such as the English summit, Majors Fair, and Main Street event.
- Serve as a receptionist and answer phones when needed.
- Perform clerical work including filing, shredding, and scanning.
- Help with special projects as they arise.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in at least 6 credit hours per semester at JJC toward your declared major.
- A minimum GPA of 2.0.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to work cooperatively with college staff and the community.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
- A flexible schedule and demonstrated multicultural competence are preferred.

- Location: Joliet, Illinois.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Employment type: Part-time, up to 10 hours per week.
- Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
