About the role#
The Natural Areas Intern supports the management and monitoring of the JJC Natural Areas. This role involves a mix of field work, data collection, and administrative tasks to assist the Natural Areas Committee. You will work 10 to 15 hours per week on-site at the main campus.
What you'll do#
- Collect data on management aspects including tree damage, invasive species, water chemistry, bird box activity, and reptile populations.
- Walk the natural areas trails on a weekly basis.
- Record and summarize data from deer management programs and participate in vegetation surveys.
- Assist with the completion of IDNR deer management permits and help with grant research.
- Attend all Natural Areas Committee meetings, manage logistics, and write up meeting minutes for the team.
- Maintain trail map availability and manage a social media presence to promote the natural areas.
- Meet biweekly with the Natural Areas Committee Chair.
- Support ecological restoration workdays.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current full-time student at Joliet Junior College.
- An interest in Biology or Environmental Biology.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience using social media platforms.

- This position is located in Joliet, Illinois, at the JJC Main Campus.
- This is a paid, part-time internship with a rolling term.
