About the role#
J.D. Irving, Limited is offering work practicum opportunities for NBCC students during the Fall 2026 term. This role provides hands-on experience in a professional finance environment. You will work within Finance Client Services, Accounts Receivable, or the Payroll team based on your interests and experience. This is a full-time, paid position located on-site in Saint John, New Brunswick.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to daily operations and meaningful projects.
- Perform routine tasks and value-added project initiatives.
- Assist with testing internal controls.
- Use technology and data analytics tools to support reporting, analysis, and decision-making.
- Collaborate with team members across various finance functions.
Depending on your assigned area, you may also:
- Respond to customer and vendor inquiries via phone and email.
- Perform statement reconciliations and provide interdepartmental support.
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payrolls.
- Assist with payroll governance, compliance, reporting, and audits.
- Process daily cash receipts, credit card payments, and account adjustments.
- Investigate unapplied cash and support collection activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at NBCC in Accounting, Business, or Administration.
- Good academic standing.
- A long-term interest in a career in Finance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- High energy and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- A mindset focused on process improvement.
