About the role#
Library Student Assistants support the daily operations of the library by assisting patrons and helping staff with management and outreach tasks. This role provides a welcoming environment for students and faculty while offering the opportunity to gain experience in library services and information management.
What you'll do#
- Open and close the library facility, including operating the security door.
- Greet visitors and answer directional questions regarding library resources and campus locations.
- Manage the circulation of library materials, including checking items in and out.
- Assist with library programming, such as setting up event spaces.
- Shelve books and maintain the organization of library collections.
- Perform hourly patron counts to track library usage.
- Troubleshoot basic printer and computer issues for patrons.
- Triage inquiries to direct patrons to the appropriate resources, such as librarians, the bookstore, or the testing center.
What you'll need#
- Current Federal Work-Study eligibility with a completed FAFSA on file.
- Ability to maintain aid-eligible Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patrons, staff, and faculty.
- Physical ability to lift 10-20 lbs. for tasks such as shelving books or operating the security door.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Currently enrolled in a major such as Communications, Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology, History, or Public Health.
