About the role#
ITW Hartness is hiring a Research and Development Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position focuses on the design of automation equipment and secondary packaging machinery. You will work in an office environment and perform hands-on tasks while learning the manufacturing standards that govern machine design. The role includes opportunities to visit customer sites, network with leadership, and interact with interns from other ITW divisions.
What you'll do#
- Gain experience in mechanical engineering design by assisting with customer and R&D projects.
- Design automation equipment using CAD software.
- Create manufacturing and assembly drawings for machine centers.
- Develop tools and structures to support the manufacturing process.
- Apply business process and improvement tools to optimize operations, reduce costs, and develop solutions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors degree program for Mechanical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Exposure to AutoCAD and Solidworks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to solve problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs like Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- A methodical, logical approach to performing root cause analysis.
