About the role#
This is a full-time Engineering Internship for Summer 2027 based in Chicago. You will join one of our engineering departments to support the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale energy projects. This program lasts 10 to 12 weeks, beginning in late May or early June.
What you'll do#
- Manage initiatives that support technical design, project evaluation, and construction.
- Evaluate project constraints and design project layouts to maximize value.
- Design site measurement campaigns and analyze meteorological datasets.
- Model expected energy production and key performance metrics.
- Conduct site visits for evaluation, suitability, and due diligence.
- Participate in landowner meetings, community outreach, and construction meetings.
- Work with wind turbine OEMs on equipment selection and optimization.
- Interface with development, origination, finance, environmental, and project management teams.
- Prepare conceptual project layouts using CAD, GIS, QGIS, or Visio.
- Use performance modeling software including PVSyst and SAM.
- Assist the development team with permitting efforts.
- Analyze real-time operational data for renewable power plants.
- Support pilot projects to improve equipment reliability.
- Develop dashboards, analytics, and troubleshooting procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program.
- Expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Major in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or a related engineering discipline.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Demonstrated interest in the energy sector.
