About the role#
The Immigration Legal Team Intern supports staff in providing services to refugees, asylees, and other immigrants. This role involves assisting with adjustment of status, citizenship, and pro-se asylum cases. Interns gain experience in U.S. immigration law, client services, and case management within a professional legal setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist immigration staff in providing direct services to clients.
- Draft legal applications and manage follow-up communication with clients.
- Perform clerical and administrative duties to maintain accurate and up-to-date client files.
- Help manage client cases to ensure all tasks are completed within established deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a post-secondary institution or graduation within the last 2 years.
- Academic background in Political Science, International Relations, Human Resources, Sociology, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data tracking, and file management systems.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- A strong desire to assist immigrants in New York and the ability to exercise good judgment.
- Native fluency in Spanish is required. Additional language skills in French, Dari, Pashto, or Arabic are desired.
