About the role#
As a Technical Support Intern, you will resolve issues that impact IBM client business. You will play a key role in enhancing the client experience by leading the problem resolution process through analysis and troubleshooting. This is a client-facing position where you provide remote technical software, hardware, and problem management support with the guidance of IBM Subject Matter Experts.
What you'll do#
- Lead the problem resolution process through analysis and troubleshooting.
- Provide high quality remote technical software, hardware, and problem management support to clients.
- Communicate action plans to clients or IBM representatives.
- Collaborate with IBM Subject Matter Experts.
- Work on strategic projects including Artificial Intelligence (Watson), the Cognitive Support Platform, TCP/IP networking, and other technical support processes.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with Problem Determination and Problem Source Identification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with at least one programming language such as C, C++, Python, or Java.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with operating system concepts like memory management, file systems, and CPU architecture.
- Basic knowledge of storage concepts, including RAID, block versus object storage, and data redundancy.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, SMB, and InfiniBand.
- Experience with Linux/Unix systems, including command-line operations.
- Experience reviewing software or hardware logs, such as system dumps or low-level troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with z/OS or other mainframe environments, APIs, and scripting.
- A basic understanding of LLM foundational models and generative AI.
- Experience developing presentations and creating spreadsheets.
- A background in tutoring, teaching assistant roles, or mentoring.
