About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in enterprise IT systems management and introduces modern reliability engineering practices. You will work alongside experienced professionals to support infrastructure operations and contribute to automation and performance initiatives. This role focuses on both Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Network Reliability Engineering (NRE) functions.
What you'll do#
- Maintain and support enterprise IT systems, including servers, virtual machines, and cloud environments.
- Monitor system performance and identify reliability issues.
- Support automation efforts for routine administrative tasks using scripting tools.
- Participate in incident response and post-incident analysis.
- Document system configurations, operational procedures, and reliability metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure and service delivery.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Support day-to-day network operations and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Participate in network performance analysis and reporting.
- Apply automation techniques to reduce manual tasks and improve reliability.
- Collaborate on network upgrades, deployments, and incident response.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of operating systems including Linux, Unix, Windows, z/OS, and zVM.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals and cloud networking.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like Python and Bash.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as IBM Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
- Interest in SRE and NRE principles, including automation, observability, fault tolerance, and incident response.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like Wireshark, SolarWinds, Grafana, and Prometheus.
- Experience with version control systems like Git and CI/CD concepts.
- Interest in large-scale enterprise computing and mission-critical environments.
