About the role#
IBM is hiring Hardware Developer Interns to contribute to the design, testing, and support of hardware, firmware, and semiconductors. You will work on infrastructure products including zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Systems. This is a full-time, paid internship role.
What you'll do#
- Perform logic (RTL) design, verification, and physical or analog/IO design.
- Conduct signal and power integrity analysis.
- Work on microelectronics packaging and materials characterization.
- Manage mechanical design, modeling, and technology integration.
- Handle circuit design, electrical design, and printed circuit board layout.
- Execute thermal design and testing, plus voltage regulation and power delivery.
- Develop performance models and conduct processor or system validation.
- Provide customer and field engineering support.
- Perform firmware architecture, development, and test failure analysis.
- Manage product quality, assurance, specifications, and analytics.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with microprocessor or ASIC design skills including VHDL, Verilog, RTL, SPICE, TCL, and UVM.
- Coursework in VLSI design, computer architecture, and signal integrity.
- Programming proficiency in C/C++, Python, Java, or other object-oriented languages.
- Familiarity with Linux, Git, and debugging tools.
- Proficiency in CAD tools and 3D modeling.
- Knowledge of hardware architectures such as FPGA, MIPS, RISC-V, Arm, x86, or Quantum systems.
- At least three months of experience in hardware design or manufacturing is preferred.
