About the role#
The Data and Business Intelligence Analyst Intern will support the end-to-end lifecycle of Power BI reporting and data modeling. This role focuses on driving data-driven decision-making while exploring AI-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency. The position requires a commitment to data transparency and clear logic for all stakeholders.
What you'll do#
- Support end-to-end BI development by defining requirements and creating functional prototypes and production-ready reports.
- Build and maintain robust semantic models for BI and AI applications using Python, SQL, Power Query, and DAX.
- Manage and configure Row-Level Security and evaluate Object-Level Security for sensitive data.
- Apply modern design patterns to create intuitive, user-friendly reports while contributing to the Hitachi Rail Power BI Toolkit.
- Analyze datasets for usability and propose methods to improve data integrity.
- Document data processing steps, manage report testing, and host Gate Reviews for production releases.
- Contribute to AI and automation initiatives by building agentic workflows to improve operational efficiency.
What you'll need#
- Currently in 4th or 5th year of a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or IT program.
- Demonstrated experience developing Power BI reports, including proficiency in DAX and Power Query.
- Strong foundational knowledge of SQL or T-SQL for data querying and transformation.
- Experience or familiarity with Python for data processing, scripting, or automation.
- Knowledge of UI/UX principles and an analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with modern development environments, such as VS Code, and AI-assisted coding tools.
- Strong organizational, presentation, and communication skills in English.
Location & details#
- Location: Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 2026 to August 2027).
- Work Modality: Hybrid (minimum of 2 days per week in the office).
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Compensation: Paid internship with paid vacation.
