About the role#
The HPE Optical Engineering team is looking for an intern to support the development, testing, and automation of optical networking solutions. You will work with experienced engineers on projects including 400G, 800G, and 1.6T optical products. This role provides exposure to optical module validation, firmware verification, and AI-driven workflow development.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python, LabVIEW, and related tools.
- Support Design Verification Testing (DVT) and characterization of optical transceivers and networking hardware.
- Assist with optical module performance testing, data analysis, and report generation.
- Contribute to firmware validation and testing for active electrical loopback modules and related hardware platforms.
- Explore and develop AI-based tools and agents to improve engineering workflows and productivity.
- Analyze test results, identify issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive resolution.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Experience through coursework, co-op terms, personal projects, or research in software development, hardware testing, or networking technologies.
- Programming experience in Python and familiarity with LabVIEW.
- Understanding of basic networking concepts and communication protocols.
- Familiarity with scripting, data analysis, and test automation methodologies.
- Exposure to firmware, embedded systems, or hardware debugging.
- Knowledge of AI/ML tools, LLMs, or agent-based workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Modality: Hybrid (requires an average of 2 days per week in the office).
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $35.00 - $41.00 per hour.
