About the role#
This internship at Devon Seafood and Steak focuses on developing operational skills within a high-volume scratch kitchen. You will gain experience in knife skills, sanitation, recipe adherence, food handling, and hot line and prep cooking. The program emphasizes learning systems designed to promote consistency and quality across the Downtown Restaurant Group, Devon Seafood and Steak, and Hershey Social Restaurant and Bar. Rotations within departments are based on individual ability and performance.
What you'll do#
- Prepare entrees, appetizers, soups, sandwiches, and side items.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with ServSafe training and State Food Safety regulations.
- Demonstrate safe handling of tools, knives, and kitchen equipment.
- Follow verbal directions and written recipes quickly and accurately.
- Assist with general food preparation and advance your knowledge of cooking techniques.
- Perform all job-related duties as required.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Currently enrolled in a culinary or pastry program, or a recent graduate within 6 months of applying.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
- One year of industry-related food and beverage experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in English, basic math, and kitchen equipment operation.
Location & details#
- Location: Hershey, Pennsylvania.
- Term: Fall 2026 (August through December).
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- Physical demands: This role requires constant standing, walking, reaching, and finger dexterity. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in extreme temperatures.
- Schedule: Flexible shifts are required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Transportation: You must provide your own reliable transportation to and from work assignments.
- Housing: Company-coordinated housing may be available for a weekly fee of $160, which covers utilities and limited transportation.
