About the role#
Health Research, Inc. is hiring an Hourly Project Assistant II for the Fall 2026 term. This internship is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. You will work with the Central New York Regional Office Community Epidemiology Team to support communicable disease surveillance across 14 counties. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position lasting approximately 10 weeks, from September 14, 2026, to November 27, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Assist with communicable disease surveillance and outbreak investigations.
- Review disease cases in the Health Commerce System for completeness.
- Support local health department staff with disease interviews.
- Participate in local, regional, and state-wide meetings.
- Create and present an educational project for the regional Take Your Future to Work Day event.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a degree in a related field, such as Public Health, Biology, Health Administration, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, or Environmental Engineering.
- A basic understanding of communicable disease.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with written or oral communications and team-based projects.
- Ability to travel up to 10 percent of the time.

- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
