About the role#
The Event and Promotions Assistant Intern supports Hartford Athletic’s mascot program, matchday operations, and community outreach. You will work closely with our mascot, Dillon, to engage fans and represent the club at various events. This role involves a mix of stadium-based tasks, community appearances, and administrative support. You will report directly to the Event and Promotions Supervisor.
What you'll do#
- Attend Men’s and Women’s First Team home matches, including tournaments, playoffs, and special event days.
- Serve as a mascot handler for Dillon, managing non-verbal communication and interactions.
- Energize crowds and lead halftime activities like the t-shirt toss.
- Staff community appearances such as watch parties, school visits, and partner events.
- Manage event logistics by loading, unloading, setting up, and breaking down equipment.
- Interact with guests at tabling locations to promote team events and the Youth Academy.
- Capture photo and video content of the mascot for social media and contribute to content brainstorming.
- Maintain mascot collateral, manage inventory, and assist with mascot transportation.
- Track and report data on the distribution of promotional materials.
- Provide crowd control for on-field activations and assist other departments as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current junior, senior, or graduate student status or a willingness to serve as a volunteer.
- Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact with fans of all ages.
- Initiative to lead tasks and suggest improvements for event operations.
- A positive attitude and a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Reliable transportation to travel to various appearances.
- Comfort working in a non-verbal environment while representing the mascot.
- Availability on weekdays and weekends between 7:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. as an on-call team member.
- Interest in the sports industry and the ability to work well within a team.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in Windsor, Connecticut, with a hybrid work modality.
- We are accepting applications for the Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027 terms.
- This is an unpaid internship position.
- Interns receive parking and mileage reimbursement for approved travel, as well as complimentary parking, water, meals, and match tickets during home games. Merchandise discounts are also available.
