About the role#
GMC is hiring an Engineering Intern to support projects across our Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston offices. This role provides hands-on experience in preparing reports, site plans, permit documents, and construction schedules. You will work under the supervision of the Engineer-of-Record and collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines and locations.
What you'll do#
- Apply technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision.
- Direct technicians in the production of engineering documents.
- Perform cross-discipline checks and coordinate project requirements.
- Review documents for quality assurance and conformity.
- Identify and report risk management issues to the Project Engineer.
- Assist with defining scope of work issues with consultants and contractors.
- Prepare technical reports and memorandums.
- Respond to inquiries from clients and regulatory agencies.
- Present information clearly in both oral and written formats.
- Participate in individual development planning and local professional societies.
- Contribute to community service activities.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor or Master degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD software.
- Civil3D experience is preferred.
- A/E or EPC experience is a plus.
- Foundations of Engineering Certificate (EIT) is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling term.
- Work is performed on-site.
- The role requires 80 percent office work and 20 percent field work.
- Field work may involve exposure to various weather conditions, temperatures, and environmental factors. Appropriate protective gear is required for all field assignments.
