About the role#
Gitar is looking for Ph.D. students to join our engineering team as interns. You will work on developer tooling while gaining experience at a seed-stage company. This role is open to students in Computer Science or related fields, with opportunities for both summer and out-of-season internships.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and maintain production-quality developer tools.
- Create solutions for automated code refactoring, compiler optimizations, and program analysis for security and reliability.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define and ship new product features.
- Manage the full application lifecycle, including coding and debugging.
- Introduce new technologies to improve our developer platform.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program for Computer Science or a related field.
- Research experience in programming languages or compilers.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: TS/JS, Go, Java, Kotlin, Ruby, Python, or Swift.
- A focus on building products that solve real user problems.
- Preferred: Research background in static analysis, automated code refactoring, program synthesis, or GenAI for code generation.
- Preferred: Experience coding in Rust.

- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is based on-site in San Mateo, California.
