About the role#
FWD.us is seeking a full-time External Affairs Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports the organization's mission to advance policy solutions regarding immigration and criminal justice reform. The intern will assist with earned media, communications, and digital strategy efforts. This position is paid at $21 per hour and includes benefits.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily media coverage, including FWD.us mentions and broader national reporting on immigration and criminal justice.
- Assist with tracking media coverage and the distribution of press releases, including copyediting and proofreading.
- Manage and respond to incoming social media messages.
- Draft social media posts and contribute to audience growth strategies.
- Support visual content creation, such as resizing assets, designing simple graphics in Canva, or editing short videos.
- Assist with day-to-day office operations and research digital trends or reporters as needed.
What you'll need#
- A demonstrated interest in immigration and criminal justice reform.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic knowledge of major social media platforms.
- Proficiency in Canva or video editing software is considered a bonus.
- Academic background or interest in Political Science, Communications, Public Health, Sociology, or Criminal Justice.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship requiring 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm) for at least 4 months.
- The role is based in either Los Angeles, CA or Washington, D.C.
- The work schedule includes on-site attendance on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with remote work on Wednesdays and Fridays.
- The internship is expected to begin around mid-August or early September 2026.
