About the role#
This is a paid internship for the Fall 2026 term, requiring 25 to 30 hours of work per week for a duration of 4 to 6 months. The role supports the criminal justice reform and crimmigration research team in advancing policy solutions. Individuals directly impacted by the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply.
What you'll do#
- Participate in ongoing quantitative research, data collection, and analysis.
- Support the research team by verifying claims for public-facing documents.
- Conduct legislative and background research on laws, policies, and academic data.
- Monitor media outlets and legislative news to inform relevant products.
- Draft memos and backgrounders to highlight research findings for internal and external use.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
What you'll need#
- Strong quantitative analysis skills and confidence using Excel or Google Sheets.
- A strong interest in criminal justice and immigration reform policies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Helpful experience includes familiarity with Stata, data cleaning, data scraping, or knowledge of criminal justice and immigration court data.
Location & details#
- Location: Oakland, California.
- Work Modality: This position is on-site in the Oakland office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with remote work on Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Schedule: Expected availability is between 9:30am and 5:30pm PST.
