About the role#
The City of Elmhurst offers this internship for students to gain exposure to local government. You will work within the City Manager office and coordinate with various departments. This role prepares you for a career in the public sector by providing experience in administrative work, research, and project design.
What you'll do#
- Perform entry-level administrative tasks and project design.
- Research municipal practices by conducting surveys of other communities.
- Provide customer service for the Administration Division.
- Respond to citizen inquiries and resolve issues within your scope.
- Attend organizational meetings and community events.
- Interact with personnel across departments to support operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master program in political science, communications, public administration, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A valid driver license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills to interact with the public, elected officials, and staff.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027.
- Schedule: Part-time, up to 19 hours per week.
- Compensation: $19.00 per hour.
