About the role#
The Student Lab Assistant supports the daily operation of engineering laboratories. You will assist students, faculty, and lab staff with equipment, tools, and hands-on projects. This role provides practical experience in a professional engineering environment while helping to maintain a safe and organized workspace.
What you'll do#
- Assist students with lab activities, equipment setup, and basic troubleshooting.
- Support faculty and staff during classes, demonstrations, and projects.
- Prepare, organize, and reset workstations.
- Operate and assist with electrical, electronics, mechanical, and mechatronics equipment.
- Help students with CAD, prototyping, fabrication, and manufacturing tasks.
- Maintain an inventory of tools, components, and materials.
- Report damaged or missing equipment to lab staff.
- Enforce safety procedures and proper equipment use.
- Clean and maintain laboratory workspaces.
- Provide technical assistance while encouraging students to solve problems independently.
- Support special projects and other assigned laboratory activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Franklin Cummings Tech.
- Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Demonstrated financial need and interest in the work-study program.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Availability to work at least 2 days a week between 9am and 3pm, with some additional shifts as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and common office tools.
- A curious mindset and a positive, professional demeanor.
