About the role#
This position involves laboratory animal care and husbandry duties for various small animals in the campus vivarium. You will work on a part-time basis to ensure the health and welfare of animals while maintaining the facility.
What you'll do#
- Perform daily husbandry tasks including feeding, watering, and cage sanitation.
- Conduct health and welfare checks, and provide treatments or perform euthanasia as directed by veterinary staff.
- Operate and maintain vivarium equipment like cage washers, floor scrubbers, and computers.
- Manage inventory by receiving, moving, and stacking feed, bedding, and supplies.
- Maintain accurate documentation in room logs, health records, and databases.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in required employee training.
- Work on a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
What you'll need#
- You must be a currently enrolled student at Delaware Valley University.
- You must have authorization to work in the United States.
- Animal Science majors are preferred.
- Knowledge of husbandry regulations, animal care requirements, and basic animal handling is helpful.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A reliable, focused, and detail-oriented approach to your work.
- No animal allergies that would prevent you from performing your duties.
- The ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in environments that include high noise, dust, or humidity.
