About the role#
This student worker position supports the production of greenhouse plant material at Delaware Valley University. You will assist with both food crops and ornamental plants, manage hydroponic systems, and handle general facility upkeep. The role involves a variety of tasks that change throughout the year, requiring you to adapt to new responsibilities as they arise.
What you'll do#
- Prepare labs and classrooms for academic instruction.
- Harvest produce including lettuce, tomatoes, basil, peppers, cucumbers, and arugula.
- Follow food safety guidelines and GAP practices.
- Support the IPM program by scouting, releasing beneficial organisms, and spraying organic materials.
- Manage growing tasks like seeding, transplanting, spacing, and pinching.
- Grade, prep, and transport plants for sales, events, and campus displays.
- Perform general greenhouse maintenance and occasional outdoor work alongside the Horticulture Production crew.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Delaware Valley University.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently when necessary.
- Willingness to learn and apply new skills.
- Comfort working in wet, dirty, or dusty conditions.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, crouching, and climbing ladders.
