About the role#
As a Universal Banking Intern at First Bank & Trust, you will learn the foundations of community banking. You will rotate through core departments including Retail Banking, Consumer, Business, Ag, and Mortgage Lending. This role offers a look into Wealth Management, Credit Review, and Operations. You will work alongside industry experts to gain practical experience in financial analysis and customer service.
What you'll do#
- Identify and differentiate various banking products and services.
- Assist with customer service by identifying needs, recommending products, and maintaining relationships.
- Handle retail banking tasks such as processing transactions, managing cash, and balancing drawers.
- Shadow the full lending process, from compiling underwriting information to loan closing.
- Observe meetings with loan customers and learn about loan types.
- Learn about Wealth Management services, including trusts, retirement planning, and investment management.
- Use internal banking systems and apply knowledge of banking regulations.
- Attend department meetings and participate in professional development sessions.
- Maintain high standards for integrity, honesty, and customer confidentiality.
- Prepare a final presentation for key stakeholders at the end of your internship.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one year of business-related coursework in a higher education setting or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to adhere to compliance procedures and training.

- This position is located in Watertown, South Dakota.
- This is an on-site, part-time internship.
- The internship follows a rolling schedule.
