As an SI/PI Intern at Etched, you will contribute to the design and validation of high-performance AI systems. Working within the architecture department, you will collaborate with package, PCB, ASIC, and system engineering teams to analyze high-speed interfaces and optimize signal quality across accelerator platforms. This role involves hands-on work with industry-standard simulation tools and real-world challenges in high-speed digital design.
What you'll do#
- Perform channel analysis for high-speed interfaces, including PCIe, Ethernet, and various SerDes links.
- Extract and validate S-parameter models from package and PCB layouts.
- Analyze insertion loss, return loss, impedance discontinuities, and crosstalk.
- Build and validate 3D electromagnetic models using Ansys HFSS.
- Correlate simulation results with physical measurements and lab data.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify root causes of channel degradation and propose design improvements.
- Generate channel compliance reports and support design reviews.
- Develop automated workflows for simulation and data analysis.
What you'll need#
- Progress toward a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Coursework or project experience in signal integrity, electromagnetics, RF, microwave engineering, or high-speed digital design.
- Familiarity with transmission line theory and S-parameters.
- Understanding of PCB stackups, routing, and high-speed design fundamentals.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Ansys HFSS, SIwave, ADS, or CST is preferred.
- Familiarity with ECAD databases like Allegro or APD is a plus.
- Proficiency in Python scripting for automation and experience with laboratory equipment like VNAs, oscilloscopes, or TDR is beneficial.
