    About the role#

    ESP Associates is hiring a Hazard Mitigation and Resilience Planner intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work with our planning team on projects for state, local, and Tribal clients. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Morrisville, North Carolina.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide technical assistance for hazard mitigation and resilience projects.
    • Collect and analyze data to conduct risk and capability assessments.
    • Develop strategies for hazard mitigation and resilience plans.
    • Summarize your findings and prepare reports.
    • Facilitate planning meetings, workshops, and public sessions.
    • Coordinate with participating jurisdictions, State Emergency Management Offices, and FEMA.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in an undergraduate program in Planning or a related field.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
    • Experience preparing plans or reports.
    • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
    • A satisfactory driving record.
    • An eagerness to learn and a positive attitude.
    • Preferred: Experience with GIS or an understanding of federal and state hazard mitigation programs.
