About the role#
You will join a software development team building DeltaV, our flagship distributed process control system used by companies in the chemical, life sciences, and energy industries. You will work alongside experienced engineers and mentors on a project drawn from our real backlog. You will build new application features, develop services and APIs, improve code performance, or contribute to internal tools. Depending on the project, you may also explore AI/ML capabilities or apply machine learning models to engineering problems. No prior industrial automation experience is required.
What you'll do#
- Partner with software engineers and your mentor on a summer project.
- Design, write, and test code for new features or improvements.
- Explore how emerging technologies can be applied to real product and engineering problems.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging.
- Take part in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning and retrospectives.
- Document what you build and present your results to the team at the end of the summer.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and returning to school after the internship.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer/Electrical Engineering.
- Coursework or project experience in at least one programming language like C#, Java, Python, C/C++, or JavaScript.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Junior or Senior standing is preferred.
- Experience with C# or another object-oriented language and comfort working in an IDE like Visual Studio or VS Code.
- Familiarity with Git or another source control system.
- Exposure to application development concepts such as .NET, web or desktop UI frameworks, REST APIs, or SQL.
- Experience with Python libraries like pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Coursework or projects involving AI/ML, data analysis, or large language model APIs.
- Interest in cloud platforms like Azure or AWS, or containers like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.
- Previous internship, class project, hackathon, or personal project experience.
