About the role#
This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2027 based in Iowa. You will work within the Strategic Analytics department at EMC Insurance Companies. The program provides structured opportunities to develop industry knowledge and professional skills while working on data science projects.
What you'll do#
- Build data science solutions under the guidance of a supervisor.
- Gather, clean, and pre-process structured and unstructured data to build modeling datasets.
- Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends and patterns.
- Share your findings and results with your supervisor for review.
- Learn about the company culture, departmental structure, and branch functions.
- Research and provide recommendations on at least one emerging technology or innovation.
- Develop a foundational understanding of insurance operations, including ratemaking, data management, and statistical analysis.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or Finance. Completion of your junior year is preferred.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- A clear interest in pursuing a career in property casualty insurance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Attention to detail and solid computer skills.
