About the role#
The Business Intelligence and Systems team at East Penn Manufacturing is seeking a Data Engineering Intern to contribute to the development of data pipelines, integrations, and warehouse infrastructure. This role involves working directly with enterprise systems to support analytics and reporting. Interns will gain experience in SQL development, ETL/ELT design, and data modeling within a manufacturing environment.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to move data from source systems into a central data warehouse.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries, stored procedures, and views against SQL Server databases.
- Support the design and implementation of star schema models and data marts for downstream consumption.
- Integrate enterprise systems into the central data platform.
- Build validation checks to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Monitor pipeline health, identify failures, and resolve data issues in collaboration with team members.
- Document data sources, transformations, and schemas to support data governance.
- Manage work items using Jira and publish documentation via Microsoft SharePoint.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL against relational databases, such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
- Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data warehousing fundamentals, and relational data modeling.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language, with a preference for Python.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint for collaboration and documentation.
- Familiarity with Jira or similar work management tools.
- Preferred qualifications include exposure to Power BI, star schema modeling, Git, cloud data platforms, and API integration patterns.
