About the role#
E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Substation Design Engineer Intern to support electric utility projects in the San Diego area. This part-time, on-site role involves working under the direction of senior engineers and project managers to develop substation design drawings and engineering calculations.
What you'll do#
- Assist in developing physical or protection and control (P&C) substation design drawings and engineering calculations.
- Perform self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before presentation to senior design reviewers.
- Coordinate project activities with senior engineers and project managers.
- Utilize company and client information systems to track and update design activities.
- Assist senior engineers during job site meetings to gather scope of work.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-approved program.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation and the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills.
- One to three years of related academic or project experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and experience with substation design standards are preferred but not required.

- Location: San Diego, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, rolling term.
- Compensation: $22.00 – $32.00 per hour, commensurate with skill and experience.
- Employment requirements: This position requires the ability to sit, stand, and move freely for up to 8 hours per day. As a drug-free workplace, candidates may be subject to background checks and drug testing upon offer.
