About the role#
DOWL is hiring a Civil Design Intern for the summer of 2027 in Bend, Oregon. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship. You will support our practice areas including Civil and Land Development, Transportation and Structures, Water and Environmental Services, or Construction-Related Services.
What you'll do#
- Research and visit project sites to document existing conditions.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Handle manual or AutoCAD drafting tasks.
- Coordinate with government agencies and clients to secure design information and approvals.
- Manage project correspondence and maintain accurate records.
- Visit construction sites to monitor work progress and quality.
- Assist with the preparation and editing of construction specifications.
- Calculate construction bid quantities and estimate project costs.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering.
- A valid driver license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project software.
- Ability to work with geometry, trigonometry, and statistical analysis.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret technical instructions and draw valid conclusions.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, co-workers, and the public.
- AutoCAD experience is highly desirable.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful.
