About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection Intern for the Summer 2027 term at the Surry Nuclear Power Station. This role provides hands-on experience in power generation, transmission, and distribution. You will work alongside System Protection Technicians to learn about substation equipment, high-voltage testing, protective relays, and control circuits.
What you'll do#
- Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
- Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument repair.
- Participate in high-voltage diagnostic and relay testing.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
- Shadow technicians to gain insight into field operations and substation equipment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year degree program in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, electronics, instrumentation, or mechatronic technology.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- An anticipated graduation date of Fall 2027 or later.
- Strong problem-solving skills with mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Solid math and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet physical requirements including climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.
- Weight restriction of 290 pounds due to equipment limits.
