About the role#
This internship is based at our Locks TSB facility in Petersburg, Virginia. You will work alongside experienced personnel to provide technical support for the installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment. This role focuses on hands-on field work rather than design tasks. You will also gain exposure to the Electrical Equipment Development Program to understand future employment requirements.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the testing of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, regulators, and CCVTs.
- Manage the procurement of materials, spare parts, and specific tools.
- Perform infrared testing and aerial lift testing.
- Collect oil samples from transformers and circuit breakers for DGA review.
- Execute transformer processing tasks.
- Install and test batteries and chargers.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor degree program for Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Engineering Technology, Electric Utility Substation & Relay Technology, or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Strong math and technical aptitude with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work as a team player and follow instructions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management and organization.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet physical requirements including manual dexterity, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.
- Must be under the weight limit of 290 pounds due to equipment safety restrictions.
