About the role#
The Engineering Analytics & Modeling team focuses on bridging the gap between real-world system data and business intelligence. We use time-series measurement data to understand system behavior, identify trends, and support planning decisions for the electric transmission organization. This role involves working with data from sources like synchrophasors, SCADA, and load measurements to help manage the grid.
What you'll do#
- Navigate and interrogate various power system and supporting data sources.
- Analyze time-series data across different time horizons and measurement resolutions.
- Identify trends, patterns, relationships, and anomalies within historical data.
- Support the development of analytical tools to observe, diagnose, and forecast system behavior.
- Explore new applications of statistical modeling, signal analysis, and forecasting methods.
- Apply machine learning and econometric methods to develop and evaluate forecasting models.
- Explore longer-horizon, scenario-based, and probabilistic forecasting techniques.
- Develop transparent, explainable analyses and models.
- Compare model outputs with actual system results, explain variances, and recommend improvements.
- Communicate findings through reports, visualizations, and presentations.
What you'll need#
- Currently working toward a graduate level degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related technical discipline.
- A GPA of 3.5 or above.
- A strong engineering or quantitative background.
- A strong grasp of statistical approaches for time-series data.
- Strong analytical programming skills, preferably in Python.
- Ability to think abstractly and persevere when working through new problems.
- Ability to operate independently.
- Ability to translate complex analytical results into clear reports and presentations.
