About the role#
This internship is part of the Corporate Engineering Mechanics group at the Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, Virginia. You will work alongside subject matter experts who support four nuclear power plant sites. The team ensures that piping and equipment remain structurally sound and meet all regulatory and code requirements, including seismic standards.
What you'll do#
- Build mathematical models using PC-based software or manual calculation methods.
- Qualify piping and supporting structures against loading combinations like seismic, thermal, and fluid transient forces.
- Review in-service inspection findings, such as weld flaws or thinned areas, against design codes like ASME Section III or XI.
- Use fracture mechanics techniques to determine if components are acceptable for continued service.
- Document your engineering analysis in formal calculations and technical products.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited Bachelor's program for Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
- A graduation date in 2028 or 2029.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Knowledge of basic electrical theories and principles.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, with a preference for Excel Macros.
- Strong professional ethics and the ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
- Solid technical writing and communication skills.
