About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking an intern to join the Electric Transmission (ET) Engineering Standards team. This department manages the engineering, construction, and operations of the high voltage electric grid, ranging from 69kV to 500kV. You will support projects that integrate solar and wind energy and manage power delivery for a large customer base.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain system-wide standards for protection, communications, metering, and control.
- Provide technical support for the application of protection and control standard designs.
- Evaluate new products and methods to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Create engineering standard drawings and design requirements for overhead and underground high voltage transmission lines.
- Develop engineering standard drawings and design requirements for substation equipment, including circuit breakers and transformers.
- Design training materials for internal design engineers.
- Select standard material and equipment vendors.
- Represent the team at industry forums and events such as IEEE, SEE, CIGRE, and EPRI.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment with plans to transfer to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering program.
- Preferred majors include Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to plan work independently.
- Clear oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Ability to solve complex problems and think analytically.
- Basic knowledge of engineering theory and concepts.
- Understanding of basic system protection practices and relays.
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and industry practices.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
