About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will join a project team to perform design and engineering tasks. You will work under the supervision of senior engineers to build your technical skills and gain practical experience. This role includes both office-based design work and time spent at job sites to learn about substation construction.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents, drawings, and wiring diagrams from schematics.
- Generate bills of materials and apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations, including relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit studies.
- Use engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing.
- Apply industry standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Manage project tasks to meet schedule requirements and maintain document records.
- Identify project problems and suggest potential solutions to your supervisor.
- Travel to job sites for short periods to gain hands-on construction knowledge.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- A focus on power systems and prior experience in the power field are preferred.
- Foundational knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with standard office software like word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work well within a team.
