About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will join a project team to perform engineering and design duties. You will work under direct supervision to apply engineering principles to substation projects. This role involves a mix of office-based design work and hands-on site visits to gain practical knowledge of construction and design.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents, drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials for substation projects.
- Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering support tasks such as relay burden, lighting, simplified load flow, and short circuit calculations.
- Learn and apply engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and load flow studies.
- Apply industry standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Use the document management system and follow corporate engineering practices.
- Spend time at job sites to observe substation construction.
- Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work and proactively flag potential project issues.
- Complete tasks to meet project schedule requirements.
- Travel out of town for short periods as projects require.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- A power focus and prior internship or work experience in the power field are preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals and basic three-phase power systems.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and demonstrate leadership.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
