About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will join a project team to perform engineering and design duties under direct supervision. This role focuses on developing your technical knowledge through hands-on tasks and application of engineering principles. You will work on substation projects, learn corporate standards, and gain exposure to both office-based design and field construction environments.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents and drawings, including wiring diagrams from schematics.
- Generate bills of materials and apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering support tasks such as relay burden, lighting, simplified load flow, and short circuit calculations.
- Learn and apply software for ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing.
- Follow engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge of substation construction.
- Manage your own tasks to meet project schedule requirements.
- Identify project-related problems and suggest potential solutions to the team.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required by project needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- A power focus or prior internship experience in the power field is preferred.
