About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will work as part of a project team to support engineering and design tasks. You will receive direct supervision while working on projects that develop your technical knowledge and professional skills. This role involves both office-based design work and on-site visits to gain experience in substation construction.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents and drawings, including wiring diagrams from schematics and bills of materials.
- Apply field mark-ups to project as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations such as relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit studies.
- Complete ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing tasks.
- Apply engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Use the document management system and follow corporate engineering practices.
- Visit job sites for construction and design training.
- Identify project problems and suggest solutions to the team.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required by project assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- A power focus and prior internship or work experience in the power field are preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work in both office and industrial field environments.
