About the role#
As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will join a project team to perform engineering and design duties. You will work under supervision to apply engineering principles and develop your technical skills. This role involves both office-based design work and on-site visits to gain practical knowledge of substation construction.
What you'll do#
- Create or modify civil and structural design documents and drawings.
- Perform engineering support tasks including structural analysis and wind load calculations.
- Learn and apply engineering standards such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, and ACI.
- Master the company document management system and corporate engineering practices.
- Visit job sites to gain hands-on experience in substation construction and design.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work.
- Identify potential project problems and propose solutions to your supervisor.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required by project needs.
- Handle special projects and additional duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering at an accredited university.
- Basic knowledge of structural analysis and steel and concrete design.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate with co-workers, vendors, and clients.
- A power focus and prior internship or work experience in the power field are preferred.
