About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern at Dashiell, you will join a project team to perform engineering and design duties. You will work under the direct supervision of senior engineers to apply engineering principles to real-world projects. This role involves a mix of office-based design work and hands-on site visits to gain practical knowledge of substation construction.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents, drawings, wiring diagrams from schematics, and bills of materials.
- Apply field mark-ups to project as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering support tasks including relay burden, lighting, simplified load flow, and short circuit calculations.
- Complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing.
- Learn and apply engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Use the document management system and follow corporate standard engineering practices.
- Spend time at job sites for training and hands-on experience.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work.
- Identify potential project issues and suggest solutions to your supervisor.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required by project needs.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- A focus on power systems is preferred.
- Prior internship or work experience in the power field is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to work well in a team.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and travel occasionally.
