About the role#
This internship focuses on structural and thermal simulation for electric motors and inverters. You will spend about 70 percent of your time on structural analysis and 30 percent on thermal analysis. You will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to support research, development, and experimental correlation.
What you'll do#
- Perform finite element analyses to evaluate the structural response of PCB assemblies and electronic components under random vibration environments.
- Carry out correlation studies between finite element models and experimental results.
- Define and document modelling practices and recommendations for assessing vibration-induced fatigue risk in electronic components.
- Study existing water-cooled motor electromagnetic 1D thermal analysis of steady state performance.
- Post-process loss data to generate a thermal index.
- Compile motor thermal indexes and perform parametric analysis to relate the index to motor geometry.
- Work with the electromagnetic team to update 1D analysis software with new thermal index options.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's (fourth year) or Master's program in Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of finite element (FE) and thermal analysis software tools.
- Strong critical thinking skills for mechanical systems and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.
- Understanding of electric motor fundamentals is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Boucherville, Quebec, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 (starting January 4, 2027).
- Modality: On-site.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
