About the role#
This internship focuses on mechanical analysis for electric motors and inverters. You will split your time between structural analysis (70%) and thermal analysis (30%). You will contribute to simulation, experimental correlation, and research and development while working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
What you'll do#
- Improve the prediction of fatigue in printed circuit board (PCB) components under random vibration loads.
- Perform finite element analysis to evaluate the structural response of PCB assemblies.
- Conduct correlation studies between simulation models and experimental results.
- Document modeling practices and recommendations for assessing vibration-induced fatigue risks.
- Analyze existing 1D thermal studies of water-cooled motors to establish a thermal index.
- Perform parametric analysis to link thermal indices with motor geometry.
- Work with the electromagnetics team to integrate thermal indices into their 1D analysis tools.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor (4th year) or master program in mechanical engineering.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) and thermal analysis software.
- Strong critical thinking skills regarding mechanical systems and root cause analysis.
- Proactive attitude and the ability to communicate within a team.
- Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written.
- A basic understanding of electric motor operation is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Boucherville, Quebec, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 (starts January 4, 2027).
- Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
