About the role#
The Energy Data Science Intern supports strategic decision making at Dairyland Power Cooperative. You will work on increasing data accessibility, performing statistical analysis, and building predictive models to provide insights. This position contributes to the company's financial strength, growth, and safety culture.
What you'll do#
- Build, test, and document data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver data for analysis.
- Integrate APIs, databases, and external data sources into the cloud-based Lakehouse environment.
- Clean, validate, and organize energy and business data to improve reliability.
- Perform statistical analysis to identify trends and quantify uncertainty.
- Develop and evaluate machine learning models for business applications.
- Support model deployment, validation, and performance monitoring.
- Translate business questions into quantitative analyses.
- Present findings, assumptions, and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Create technical documentation for data sources, pipelines, and analytical methods.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in data science, statistics, mathematics, artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience using at least one scientific computing language, preferably Python.
- Foundational knowledge of data structures, statistical analysis, and relational databases.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- A valid driver's license.
- Preferred experience includes SQL, data modeling, cloud data platforms like AWS or Microsoft Fabric, and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Occasional overnight travel is required.
