About the role#
This Quality Engineering Internship at Daimler Truck North America offers hands-on experience in heavy-duty truck and engine manufacturing. You will work directly with quality engineers to analyze production data, investigate defects, and support initiatives that improve product reliability. This is a full-time, paid position for the Summer 2027 term, beginning in May or June. Interns may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance and business needs.
What you'll do#
- Analyze warranty, defect, and manufacturing data to identify trends and root causes.
- Support investigations into production defects and nonconformances.
- Use tools like 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Pareto Analysis for root cause investigations.
- Develop and update quality documentation including work instructions, control plans, and PFMEAs.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams on corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist with internal audits and compliance to ISO 9001 standards.
- Support continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing defects and improving process capability.
- Compile reports and present findings to quality and plant leadership.
- Participate in shop floor activities to learn production processes and quality checkpoints.
- Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or graduation within one year of the start date.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on detail.
- Ability to interpret data and identify trends using Excel or similar tools.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality principles.
- Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position located in Kentwood, MI; Hibbing, MN; Detroit, MI; or Tooele, UT.
- Compensation ranges from $21 to $29 per hour, depending on your anticipated graduation year.
- Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates, excluding roles based in Hibbing, MN or Tooele, UT.
