About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap to gain experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on preparing you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist while supporting the daily needs of the pharmacy team.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and follow company SOPs at every workstation.
- Assist the team to ensure prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Provide empathetic care to patients, including fielding medical questions and soliciting medical history.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and facilitate medication changes where allowed.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members as you gain experience.
- Handle basic inventory tasks like putting away deliveries and completing cycle counts.
- Deliver patient services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing.
- Educate patients on vaccine importance and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Remain flexible with scheduling and travel to other store locations within the market as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure prescription and label accuracy.
- Ability to pivot quickly between tasks and concentrate for extended periods.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to use math to solve pharmacy-related problems.
- 1+ years of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting is preferred.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
