About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice under the direction of a preceptor. This role focuses on developing your skills in preparation for a Pharmacist position. You will follow a comprehensive training roadmap to gain a broad overview of store, district, and regional operations while assisting the pharmacy team with daily tasks.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and gain hands-on experience in pharmacy operations.
- Ensure prescriptions are filled accurately, safely, and promptly while following company SOPs.
- Provide caring service to patients, including fielding medical questions and soliciting medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and communicate with prescribers to clarify information or facilitate medication changes.
- Perform inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns, and processing medication deliveries.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to other pharmacy team members as your tenure increases.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and monitor for potential adverse reactions.
- Obtain Technician Immunizer status and deliver additional health care services where permitted by law.
- Travel to other stores within the market to work shifts as needed to meet business requirements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to use active listening when interacting with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly between responsibilities to meet patient needs.
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations required for prescription dispensing.
- Experience identifying challenging interactions and choosing the best course of action.
- 1+ years of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting is preferred.
- Ability to become immunization certified and proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
Location & details#
- Location: Grosse Ile, Michigan.
- This is a part-time, on-site role with a rolling term.
- Pay range: $20.00 - $23.75 per hour.
